Jose Cochingyan III - 2014Jose Cochingyan III is the founder and Managing Partner of Cochingyan & Peralta Law Offices, a Philippine based, full service business law firm that has gained international recognition and prominence in the field of cross-border transactions under his leadership.

He has advised many globally renowned multi-national companies during the course of his 25 years of professional practice. His areas of expertise include corporate governance, corporate structures, mergers & acquisitions, foreign direct investment, intellectual property law, environmental compliance, commercial disputes, corporate taxation, immigration and labor legislation.

Key engagements that he has advised on are summarized below:

  • Establishment of enhanced corporate compliance systems for the Philippine operations of several European based multi-nationals
  • Completion of several notable strategic transactions providing the full range of legal services from due diligence to sale & purchase agreement
  • Laying out optimal corporate structures in the Philippines compliant with both foreign equity restrictions and global corporate policy and which maximize investment incentives for foreign investors where available
  • Provision of taxation services ranging from disputes and litigation to refunds and tax treaty reliefs

He is the Co-Chairman of the Cross Border Investments Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA). He is also the Vice President of the Immigration Lawyers Association of the Philippines and has been for many years. He is a registered Patent and Trademark Attorney and has been practicing intellectual property law since 1988. He is a member of Asian Patent Attorney Association (APAA), International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), and the International Trademark Association (INTA).

In addition to his professional practice, Mr. Cochingyan currently lectures at the Ateneo de Manila School of Law on Business Law, International Corporate Finance, Natural Resources, Real Estate Law, Partnership and Agency Law and Statutory Construction. He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines, College of Law.
